New Arrivals!

EPIC would like to welcome 2 new members to the family! Meet Lindsey Kaplan and Shashana Kaplan. No, that’s wasn’t a typo, we have hired a couple of Paul Mitchell School graduates with the same last name! All that being said, let’s break the ice!

Tell us a little about your experience working in the beauty industry.

Lindsey:  I graduated from Paul Mitchell in Jan '08, which was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. I had the most wonderful experience there and wanted to continue with that experience when I left. I definitely "drank the Kool-Aid"!! I love the culture that the company brings to the beauty industry. It is a company that wants to help you grow with them and for you to become the best you can in the industry. I am so happy to have found a salon in LA that has the same vision.

Shashana:  For the past 30 years I have been a hair and makeup artist for the Film & Television Industry. After my 2 Emmy nominations for creating the "look" for Dancing With the Stars, I decided I wanted to build real, lasting relationships with my clientele.

What is your favorite thing about doing hair?

L:  I love making people feel good. This is a career where you get instant gratification not only from your artistic abilities, but from the happiness of the wonderful people you encounter.

S:  Unlike with makeup, that "beautiful feeling" doesn't wash off at night.

What do you hope to accomplish while working with the EPIC team?

L:  SUCCESS!! I want to learn and grow with them. I feel that “success” is being truly happy with what you do and with whom you surround yourself. With that you will find financial success.

S:  To be as skilled and accomplished as the people I work with.

Stayin' with the times!

Happy New Year! If you've been a friend of EPIC Salon during our first 15 years, you're already aware of the salon's changes and development. Remodels, new product lines, new stylists, charity events, editorial photo shoots and the addition of many different services are just a few examples of how EPIC stays on top of the hairstyling world. If you're new to the salon and just getting to know everyone we call "family", you can also be involved in our evolution.

As part of our communication with each guest and to help keep everyone apprised and excited about all happenings at EPIC, we have decided to offer a blog - a fun tool where anyone interested can subscribe and find out about everything new we have to offer.

We will have various tid-bits of alluring news every few weeks, including: retail specials, "how to" videos and service coupons. So check in and stay up to date on the EPIC Salon Blog!

New to the floor!

Tonia has spread her wings! After assisting both Jeff and Arlene for a year, Tonia Mazzo has earned her place on the floor at EPIC. Some of you may know her from her days of applying color for Arlene or holding foils for Jeff's clients. Others may know her as the friendly voice on our phones Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Here's a little of what our newest stylist has to say:

AHA MOMENT
When you're a kid it's always fun to do hair. When I was 15 my aunt came home with a box of bleach and a cheap pair of scissors and said "you're doing my hair because I'm broke". I've wanted a career in hairdressing ever since.

TRAINING
I attended the Paul Mitchell school in Sherman Oaks and graduated in November of 2008. Then I came to EPIC and I assisted Jeff and Arlene for a year.

FAVORITE HAIRSTYLE
I love the updo barrel curl style worn by the likes of Grace Kelly and anything that looks good with a tiara.

BEAUTY MUST HAVE
Accessories! Whether it be for the hair or as an item of clothing.

MENTORS
My Grandmother, who raised 4 children alone. She had the "working woman" and "stay at home" titles nailed.

BIGGEST CHALLENGE
Making the decision about what to do with my life, because I was a "jack of all trades, master of none".

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I EVER GOT
Play with people better than you.

GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT
Going back to school in my 30's to do what I really want to do.

NEXT CAREER STEP
I would love to open the 2nd "EPIC Salon".
